Ash Wednesday Retreat

The beginning of Lent provided students with the opportunity to pause and reflect on many things.  Following the Ash Wednesday Mass and distribution of ashes, the Retreat Day saw a variety of activities as the various grade levels focused on our call to become better Companions on the Journey.

The primary students prepared six-week Lenten booklets which helped students to identify their goals for Lent.  Intermediate grades extended support to companions serving our country around the world.  Each class also developed an outreach project for Lent.

Junior high students participated in a service-focused retreat.  Former HA student Julie Kovalaske shared her experiences as a Peace Corp volunteer in Africa. The rest of the morning was devoted to prayer and preparing bag lunches and prayer cards for the Franciscan Peacemakers.

As is the tradition, students at all grade levels prepared their God Picture for this year.  Each year, students express their image of God in art and in a short composition.  The collection is returned to each student at graduation.

During Lent, students will place a note in the weekend collection basket with their special effort to become a better companion that week.
