The 41st annual Holy Angels Basketball Classic featured several teams from the area and beyond. Emerging from round robin pool play, St. Mary (Menomonee Falls) and Christ King (Wauwatosa) squared off in the championship game, with Christ King winning on a three-point shot by Daniel Tanty with 1.8 seconds remaining, 35-34!
Holy Angels was overpowered by St. Mary’s in pool play 53-11. The Royals were defeated by St. Francis Borgia in an overtime nail-biter, 48-45. Sam Wiedmeyer led the Royals in scoring with 14 points, followed by Cal Stanek (9) and Jackson Davies (8) who went 4×4 from the line.
The host team defeated St. Kilian in the Saturday finals, 34-20, to claim fifth place. In that game, eight players scored with Bryce Barnett and Matt Zier each tallying six points.
Final 8th grade standings: 1st-Christ King; 2nd-St. Mary; 3rd-St. Boniface; 4th-St. Francis Borgia; 5th-Holy Angels; and 6th-St. Kilian.
