“Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’ As the Father has sent me, so I send you…receive the Holy Spirit.” Jn 20:19-22
“If we live in the Spirit, let us also follow the Spirit.” Gal 5:25
The theme for the 2018-19 school year is: “By The Spirit…We Are Called”. During the past school year, we eagerly welcomed God’s Spirit into our community, into our lives. We recognize that it is this Spirit that calls us to action.
Every Sunday we when we say the Creed, we profess that the Spirit has “spoken through the prophets.” The Spirit is still speaking to us and calling us to live the Gospel.
As Pope Francis encourages: ”We are all called to be holy by living our lives with love and by bearing witness in everything we do, wherever we find ourselves… Do not be dismayed, for the power of the Holy Spirit enables you to do this, and holiness, in the end, is the fruit of the Holy Spirit in your life.”
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches how the power of the Spirit blesses us when we are poor in spirit and humble before God, when we mourn and are comforted, when we are meek and gentle of heart, when we hunger and thirst for righteousness and show mercy, when we are pure of heart and strive for peace and justice, and even when we are persecuted for the sake of righteousness.
We are called to holiness and we are given the strength to respond fully to the Spirit when we gather together to proclaim the Gospel, serve others, and praise God as we grow in faith, knowledge, values, and respect.
